On February 22, 1932, during a trip to Florida, a stop was made in Charleston, SC. Presidential Secretary Laurence Richey reimbursed the Department of Commerce for floral arrangements. Under the leadership of Lt. William Coad from the Bureau of Navigation, the Sequoia was reportedly on a mission to conduct inspection work en route.
